Les Batignolles: Nature, Art and a Village-like Spirit

Description & Location
This newly redecorated two-bedroom flat hosts six in comfort and style in the charming Batignolles neighborhood – well documented in the late 1800’s by French impressionist Édouard Manet, who painted many memorable scenes of its bustling café life.

Perfect for a family or group of friends seeking a slice of Parisian life outside the traditional tourist areas, this apartment – located in a 19th century building – is surrounded by lively cafés, markets, shops and patisseries … yet well insulated, quiet and sublime behind its many shuttered third-floor windows.

With high ceilings, lovely, herringbone hardwood floors and original turn of the century molding throughout, this spacious, well lit gem features a central floor plan – and all rooms are situated just off the apartment’s entryway. Whether you gather in the living room with family and friends to enjoy traditional French pastries and coffee, or pass the evening with board games, conversation and cocktails, you’ll thoroughly appreciate this apartment for its wonderful use of light and space. The two large bedrooms tastefully decorated with a modern eye for quiet and comfort, along with a queen sofa bed in the living room can accommodate up to six people. The fabulously and unusually tiled bathroom is its own work of art, with extra large tub and separate WC. Featuring a fully equipped, modern kitchen, and ample storage space, this apartment sets the standard for the Batignolles.

Wander down through the lovely tree-lined neighborhood streets to experience the best of this vivacious neighborhood, including the expansive Square des Batignolles, covering 16,615 square meters of land (four acres or 1.66 hectares), the largest green space in the 17th arrondissement; terrific for children, or quiet evening strolls. This English style garden is complete with a cave, a waterfall and a river!

The area is extremely dynamic as far as ecology and arts go: between the rue de Legendre, the rue des Batignolles and the avenue de Clichy, there are more than fifteen galleries and workshops!  Paris-Ateliers Adac (61 rue de Legendre) is specializes in the restoration of old paintings. The gallery, Antigravité, (n° 80) exhibits jewellry, paintings and photography. The decorative spirit also has a place on this street; with interior decorator Aleth Vignon (n° 98) working with vegetal fibers, and the Japanese influenced shop Home Trotter (n° 77).

Need to catch your breath after all this beauty?  Make a quick stop at the restaurant-bar Les Puces des Batignolles for a terrific weekend brunch or wine on a string (the bottle is opened before you, but you only pay for what you drink). At the crossroads of the rue Nollet, take a sharp right to find the Atelier Nollet and the Galerie Espace (n°1 & 1 ter) and the Madar Décors workshop (n° 4).  In the evening, these well-known or unknown addresses are home to the local crowds and bring an authentic feeling to the area.
